We're obviously not going to catch every single person stopping by - but at Ithaca it shouldn't be too hard to get everyone on the ramp to sign. And at Arnot we'll just have to make sure to get the people in the grass.

I think this will be something that will need to be stressed in the drivers' meetings that EVERYONE there will need to sign and get a wristband and we should be directing them to the table first thing.

As for the signs and the little flyers I'll be making up, I'm sure I can work-up something to make sure we stay "compliant."

A remote. Well, want no more! They have one.

http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/wi-fi-bacpac-remote-combo/

Says it's available in March this year. No price yet... but who knows.

And good news, it IS compatible with the previous generation HD Hero! Well, most of it is anyway. The wifi/streaming part of it is not - but the remote function is - and that's probably the best part.

I also have the LCD bacpac for mine - and I'm guessing that won't really be compatible anymore with this. If I need to use the LCD on the back to line up the shot, I'd have to put it on, mount the camera - and then switch it out for the remote piece. Oh well... either that or sell it (the LCD bit lists for $80).

General discussion : HPDE / Trackmasters?

    Author: ack154
Subject: HPDE / Trackmasters?
Posted: 28-Jan-2012 at 10:01pm

So I probably say it every year... "I'd really like to do a track day / driving school this year."

Well, this year I'm really going to push it. It's probably just watching the Rolex 24 today... but regardless of that, it's still one of those things. So just poking around, I see that Trackmasters does quite a bit at WGI. I'm basically 100% n00b with HPD events in general and am looking for some sort of guidance here.

Would TM be worth checking out? They seem to have separate novice and intermediate classes available. I'm figuring that I'm still going to be pretty novice, despite the years of autox.

My questions then... is TM worth it? They appear to do 2 days in a row. Do most people do both days? Or is it common to just do one? If not TM... does anyone else have any recommendations? Anything I should really know ahead of time?

    Author: ack154
Subject: Random Solo Rules Review
Posted: 27-Jan-2012 at 4:11pm

I spent a few minutes today reading through the "draft" 2012 Solo Rules. I'm pretty sure these things were in there before, but I likely never actually noticed.

Anyway, I wanted to share a couple things that I found either relevant to happenings in our region or otherwise curious or interesting.

4.3.4: Footwear
Shoes covering the entire foot shall be worn.

6.5: Timing Points
A car will commence its run at least 15 feet before the point at which timing begins.

^^ I'm not sure we've ever measured this!

6.7: Visual or Oral Instruction
No visual or oral instruction shall be given to a driver during his timed runs except in an emergency situation.

^^ This means no flagger for multiple laps!

7.5: Timer Failure
If the timer fails to start or fails during a run, the driver must be flagged off the course as soon as possible.

^^ Don't think we've ever done this...

7.10: Official Results
Official results shall be typed and printed by class and position in class in order of best time and must include (at least) driver's name (first and last), hometown, car number, car make, model, year, class, tire manufacturer, Region affiliation, designation of trophy winners, corrected time for each run, and penalty for each run (if any).

^^ Do we even collect all of that??

Thoughts on any of these? Anything you've found odd or interesting lately? I think it would be good if we review some of the rules that we may not really think about or come up very often. I'll also have some thoughts on our Supplementals - which we'll actually be discussing at our next Solo Board meeting (2/13, 6pm @ Crooked Rooster)!
